At the easel

As much as I can, the aim is to paint everyday. Of course, in reality life is full of making adaptations. Frustration can set in easily when I’ve set up goals that get sidetracked by other needs and household priorities. Keeping a schedule and being prepared is key and when I form a plan and stick to bite size units, things get accomplished. For me being prepared is having surfaces prepped and ready to be painted, I list of painting ideas, lots of pictures taken and catalogued, and paint on the palette ready and waiting. Time away from painting always leads to a breakdown of my remembering those little details, and then allowing distraction to take me off course. Another important thing for me is having a variety of active projects that take up different amounts of time; making small paintings that are painted quickly when I lack studio time versus commissioned work that needs months and even years to complete.
